A recent attack by Russian forces targeted the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio in Kyiv, one of Ukraine’s oldest film institutions. The assault resulted in significant damage, including the destruction of the country’s largest and oldest costume collection.
Ukrainian Culture Minister Tetiana Berezhna reported the incident via social media, describing it as another severe crime against Ukrainian culture. The attack caused a fire that damaged the costume workshop and led to the loss of approximately 100,000 costumes and three million various clothing items.
Emergency services are currently on-site, working to extinguish the fire and address the aftermath of the attack. Berezhna shared images from the scene, highlighting the extent of the damage.
In her statement, she emphasized that Russia is deliberately targeting not only civilian infrastructure and peaceful citizens but also cultural institutions that preserve Ukrainian identity, memory, and history.
This incident follows a broader pattern of Russian military actions, as Kyiv experienced a massive and combined assault on the night of June 15. The attack resulted in multiple fires across the city, affecting residential buildings, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, and various shops.
Emergency services responded to approximately 50 locations throughout the city, with reports of injuries emerging from nearly all districts. As of 5:41 AM, over 20 individuals were reported injured, including a child and a pregnant woman, with three victims in serious condition. The death toll has risen to four.
