Russian Airstrikes Hit Zaporizhzhia Region, Causing Casualties

On Saturday, May 2, Russian forces launched airstrikes using guided bombs in the Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries, according to regional military administration head Ivan Fedorov.

The attack specifically targeted the village of Novooleksandrivka, where a 55-year-old man was killed. Among the injured were a seven-year-old girl and a 77-year-old man. Fedorov reported that several private homes were destroyed, and shockwaves from the blasts damaged nearby residences.

These airstrikes are part of a broader pattern of attacks by Russian military forces, which frequently employ various weapons, including drones, missiles, and artillery, against Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure across the country.

Ukrainian authorities and international organizations have classified these strikes as war crimes, asserting that they are deliberate in nature. They emphasize that targeting essential services and healthcare facilities is indicative of genocidal actions aimed at depriving civilians of basic necessities such as electricity, heating, water supply, communication, and medical assistance.

The Russian government, however, denies that its military is intentionally striking civilian infrastructure, claiming that such allegations are unfounded. Despite this, evidence continues to mount regarding the extensive damage inflicted on hospitals, schools, and energy and water supply systems throughout Ukraine.

Recent airstrikes in the Zaporizhzhia region by Russian forces have resulted in casualties, including a child. Ukrainian officials classify these attacks as war crimes, highlighting the targeting of civilian infrastructure amid ongoing conflict.
