Russia Launches Drone Strikes Across Multiple Ukrainian Regions

Early on the morning of April 28, 2023, Russian forces conducted drone strikes in various regions of Ukraine, including Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Chernihiv. The attacks resulted in infrastructure damage and civilian injuries.

Key Incidents:

  • Sumy Region: Drones targeted Konotop, damaging a hospital, residential buildings, and the tram network. Airstrikes also hit a kindergarten, resulting in injuries.
  • Zaporizhzhia Region: A morning strike injured two men, aged 40 and 45, who are currently in moderate condition.
  • Dnipropetrovsk Region, Kryvyi Rih: Two strikes on infrastructure left one person dead and another injured.
  • Chernihiv Region: Nighttime drone attacks ignited grain storage facilities and residential buildings.

In the Sumy region, Konotop experienced a significant drone assault, leading to damage to residential areas, a hospital, administrative buildings, and tram services. Tram operations have been restricted due to the attack.

Another strike hit the Yahmpil community, where guided bombs impacted a kindergarten and nearby homes, injuring four individuals.

According to the Air Force, drone attacks on Konotop are ongoing.

Update: Konotop’s mayor, Artem Semenikhin, reported issues with water supply and electricity as a result of the strikes. “We have sustained damage to part of the energy infrastructure. A section of the city is without power, and water supply will be scheduled from 6-9 AM and 6-9 PM,” he stated.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, the morning strike resulted in injuries to two men, aged 40 and 45, who are reported to be in moderate condition, according to local authorities. The region’s air defense systems were active during the drone attack.

In Kryvyi Rih, two strikes targeted infrastructure, resulting in one fatality and one injury. Alexander Vilkul, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, confirmed the incidents.

Update at 9:15 AM: Alexander Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, reported five injuries resulting from the attacks. A 40-year-old man was confirmed dead, while five others, aged between 31 and 57, sustained injuries. Medical personnel are providing necessary assistance to the victims.

In the Chernihiv region, drones attacked two agricultural facilities in the Novhorod-Siverskyi district, igniting storage areas for grain. In the Horodnyanska community, strikes on residential sectors led to fires in homes and outbuildings.

Due to the threat of further attacks, operations were temporarily halted, and personnel were moved to safe locations. No fatalities or injuries were reported from these incidents.

The Air Force reported that 95 out of 123 drones launched by Russia overnight were intercepted. The drones, including Shahed models, were launched from various locations, including Kursk and occupied Crimea.

As of the morning, attacks are still ongoing, with warnings issued about additional drones heading towards Odesa, Konotop, and Kryvyi Rih. Citizens have been advised to remain in shelters.
