In the early hours of April 23, Russian forces launched a significant drone assault on Ukraine, deploying over 150 strike drones of various types. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted most of the incoming threats.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the attack involved 155 drones, including Shahed models and others from various origins, targeting multiple regions, including Dnipro. Approximately 100 of the drones were identified as Shahed.
Ukrainian defense forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare teams, and mobile fire groups, engaged in countering the aerial assault. Preliminary reports indicate that by morning, Ukrainian air defenses had destroyed or neutralized 139 enemy drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models, across the northern, southern, and eastern parts of the country.
Despite these efforts, 11 drones successfully struck nine locations, with debris from downed drones impacting four areas. The Ukrainian Air Force warned that the attack was ongoing and urged citizens to remain vigilant.
The assault particularly affected the city of Dnipro, where a drone struck a residential building, causing significant damage and igniting several apartments. Fires also broke out in various districts of the city, affecting vehicles and a local store.
Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in the incident, with at least two children, aged 9 and 14, among the injured.
