More than 70 leaders and representatives from foreign diplomatic missions visited the sites of recent Russian attacks in Kyiv to pay their respects to the victims, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
During the visit, Sybiha urged the international community to respond decisively to the ongoing Russian aggression. He emphasized the need for clear signals to Moscow, asserting that unity is crucial in the face of these attacks. He called for additional air defense systems and missiles for Ukraine, as well as the country’s future membership in the European Union.
The minister highlighted the stark reality of the situation, stating, “At these strike sites, we clearly see how the enemy responds to Ukraine’s peaceful efforts and those of its allies.” He reiterated the necessity for increased pressure on Russia.
On the night of May 24, Ukraine faced a massive assault from Russian forces, which included the launch of 600 drones and 90 missiles targeting various locations, primarily in Kyiv. This attack resulted in the deaths of four individuals across the country, with nearly a hundred others injured.
In Kyiv specifically, two fatalities were reported, alongside damage to over 40 sites in the Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnyanskyi, Obolonskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts. The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the assault caused destruction to residential buildings, shopping centers, educational institutions, a market, and administrative buildings of the State Emergency Service and police, as well as the National Museum of Chernobyl.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for the extensive drone and missile strikes, stating that they targeted military command centers, air bases, and enterprises within Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex.
International diplomats visited Kyiv to honor victims of recent Russian attacks, as Ukraine calls for stronger global responses to ongoing aggression. The May 24 assault resulted in fatalities and widespread damage across the city.
