The European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, has responded to recent threats from Russia regarding potential attacks on Kyiv, asserting that the EU will not yield to pressure from Moscow.
Mathernova emphasized that the EU’s operations in Kyiv will continue unabated, stating, “We are not going anywhere.” Her remarks came in the context of escalating tensions following statements from the Russian Foreign Ministry, which she characterized as a “masterpiece of hypocrisy,” given Russia’s ongoing assaults on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
According to Mathernova, Russia’s tactics aim to incite panic, isolate Ukraine, and intimidate international organizations and diplomats. However, she argued that such threats reveal not the strength of the Kremlin, but its vulnerabilities. “The more aggressive the Kremlin becomes, the clearer it is that Putin’s regime understands it cannot break Ukraine or undermine the support of its partners,” she noted.
The ambassador reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to standing alongside Ukraine in the face of Russian intimidation. “Kyiv stands. Ukraine stands. And we stand with them,” Mathernova declared, reinforcing the EU’s solidarity with the nation.
EU Ambassador Katarina Mathernova has firmly rejected Russian threats against Ukraine, emphasizing the EU's unwavering support for the country. She described Russia's actions as signs of weakness rather than strength, asserting that the EU will continue its presence in Kyiv despite intimidation tactics.
