Poland Calls for Inclusion in Ukraine Peace Talks Amid Concerns Over E3 Format

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the necessity of Poland’s involvement in any negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, expressing caution regarding proposals for expedited dialogue with Russia. His remarks were reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Reuters.

Tusk criticized the current negotiation framework known as “E3,” which includes only the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, arguing that it excludes other European allies of Ukraine. He conveyed his dissatisfaction during discussions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who shares similar concerns about the limited format.

The Prime Minister asserted that any agreements made without Poland’s participation would lack binding authority for his country. “I am very cautious about ideas circulating in Western Europe regarding the prompt initiation of dialogue or negotiations with Putin concerning Ukraine,” he stated.

In addition, Tusk announced plans for a broader meeting focused on Ukraine, which will include leaders from the UK, France, and Germany, along with representatives from Poland and Italy. This meeting aims to address Poland’s apprehensions about being sidelined in negotiations, particularly following the absence of the Polish Prime Minister at recent talks in London.

Concerns in Warsaw have been heightened by fears that Poland may be pushed to the periphery as efforts intensify to encourage Kyiv to engage in discussions with Moscow. European leaders have expressed their readiness to play a pivotal role in negotiations to conclude the ongoing conflict, with Berlin underscoring that these efforts will be closely coordinated with the United States.

Additionally, on June 7, a meeting took place in London involving leaders from the UK, France, and Germany alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During this meeting, five conditions were proposed for achieving peace with Russia, including an immediate ceasefire, using the current front line as a basis for negotiations, providing security guarantees for Ukraine, utilizing frozen Russian assets for compensation, and initiating direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia with the participation of the US and the EU.

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called for the country's inclusion in peace negotiations regarding Ukraine, expressing concerns over the exclusionary E3 format. Upcoming discussions aim to address these issues and ensure broader European participation in resolving the conflict.
