Drone Attack Targets Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Region

A drone strike on May 11 has ignited a fire at the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, according to local authorities and reports on social media. The incident has resulted in damage to residential properties and injuries to three local residents.

Officials confirmed that debris from the unmanned aerial vehicles was found at three locations in the vicinity. One residential building experienced a fire in an outbuilding, while another home had its windows shattered due to the blast wave. Additionally, a gas pipeline was reportedly damaged.

The Afipsky refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in southern Russia, with a designed capacity exceeding 6 million tons of crude oil annually. The facility produces fuel that is supplied to the Russian military, among other consumers.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, various sites within Russia and in territories occupied by Russian forces have been subjected to aerial attacks. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed many of these incidents, stating that Ukrainian defense forces are systematically undertaking measures to diminish the combat capabilities of Russian occupation troops and compel Russia to cease its military aggression against Ukraine.
