Death Toll Rises to Nine Following Russian Strike in Kyiv

Authorities in Kyiv have confirmed that the death toll from a recent Russian missile strike has increased to nine. This announcement comes as rescue operations continue at the site of a partially collapsed nine-story building in the city’s Darnytskyi district.

Timur Tkachенко, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that search efforts are still ongoing. The attack, which occurred on May 14, led to significant destruction, with 18 apartments reported as destroyed.

In the aftermath of the strike, local officials have declared May 15 a day of mourning for the victims. The State Emergency Service (SES) has indicated that at least 20 individuals remain unaccounted for following the building collapse.

Overall, the recent Russian assault has left 45 people injured, including two children. Among the deceased is a 12-year-old girl, as confirmed by rescue teams.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the night of May 14 saw a large-scale attack involving 56 missiles of various types and 675 drones, with Kyiv being the primary target. Damage from the strikes has also been reported in the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Obolonskyi districts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the recent wave of attacks has resulted in damage to 180 facilities across Ukraine, including over 50 residential buildings. Earlier in the day, Russia had launched a prolonged drone attack, primarily targeting western regions of Ukraine.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine has warned that Russia may be preparing for a sustained aerial assault on critical infrastructure, potentially deploying a significant number of cruise missiles and ballistic weapons. There has been no comment from the Russian side regarding the attacks.

A recent Russian missile strike in Kyiv has resulted in nine fatalities, with ongoing rescue operations at the site of a collapsed building. The Ukrainian government has declared May 15 a day of mourning as the region grapples with the aftermath of the assault.
