Investigation Launched into Allegations of Misconduct in Ukrainian Assault Unit

The State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) in Ukraine has initiated a preliminary inquiry following reports of potential misconduct involving personnel from the 425th Separate Assault Regiment, known as “Skelya.” The investigation comes in response to claims published by the media outlet Babel regarding possible abuses of power and violence against servicemen.

According to the DBR, the inquiry will focus on allegations of excessive use of authority by military personnel during a state of war, which may have led to severe consequences. The bureau has officially registered these claims under Article 426-1 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which addresses the abuse of power by military officials.

DBR officials stated that a series of procedural actions are currently underway to ascertain the facts surrounding these allegations. They aim to verify the accuracy of the information released by the media and to clarify all circumstances mentioned in the report.

Upon completion of the investigation, the bureau has promised to provide a legal assessment of the actions of any individuals found to be involved in potential violations.

In a related context, Babel reported that between late 2025 and spring 2026, at least 26 recruits from the 425th Separate Assault Regiment died under circumstances not linked to combat. Families of the deceased have raised concerns about delays in medical assistance and possible violence, claims which the regiment has denied.

The DBR has launched an investigation into allegations of misconduct within the 425th Separate Assault Regiment, following reports of abuse and non-combat-related deaths among recruits. The inquiry aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding these claims and assess the actions of those involved.
