Ukraine Strikes Key Military Targets on Day of Mourning

On June 22, 2026, Ukraine’s defense forces targeted a factory in Voronezh that produces electronics for the Iskander missile system, as well as a communications center in the Moscow region. This military action coincided with Ukraine’s Day of Mourning, a day dedicated to remembering the victims of war.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s continued strikes on Ukraine during this solemn day and called for international pressure on President Vladimir Putin to seek peace. In a statement via Telegram, he emphasized the need for global solidarity against the ongoing aggression.

Kyrilo Budanov, head of the President’s Office, echoed Zelenskyy’s sentiments, urging the nation to honor the memory of those lost to the conflict. He highlighted the importance of remembrance amidst the ongoing hostilities.

Andriy Sybiha, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, drew parallels between the Soviet propaganda that labeled the Nazi invasion of the USSR as treacherous and Russia’s current actions against Ukraine, which he characterized as a similar act of aggression.

In a recent interview, President Zelenskyy discussed Ukraine’s defense capabilities, revealing a contract with Germany for the delivery of 600 missiles for air defense and announcing advancements in drone technology that allow for targeting over 3,000 kilometers.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe began its summer session in Strasbourg, focusing on support for veterans, the welfare of Ukrainian children, and ongoing efforts for a special tribunal regarding Russia’s acts of aggression.

In a significant political development, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation, prompting gratitude from President Zelenskyy for his support of Ukraine. Zelenskyy acknowledged Starmer’s contributions to strengthening the defense of Ukrainian citizens.

As the conflict continues, Zelenskyy remarked, “Today, Russia began this day not in remembrance of the fallen in World War II but with actions that further the war.” He criticized Putin’s motives, likening them to those of past aggressors who disregarded human life.

On the battlefield, reports indicated that there were 44 clashes reported since the start of the day, with heightened activity in the Kostiantynivka, Huliaipole, and Pokrovsk directions. Ukraine’s defense forces have reportedly struck over 800,000 verified Russian targets since the beginning of 2026.

Concerns have been raised regarding potential threats from Belarus, with military leaders stating they are taking measures to prevent any escalation. Recent attacks have also targeted Russian military assets in Crimea, including fuel depots and air defense systems.

In a tragic turn of events, Russian drone strikes resulted in civilian casualties in Ukraine, including fatalities in the Sumy region and injuries in Zaporizhzhia, where residential buildings were damaged.

As the conflict persists, the humanitarian impact continues to grow, with calls for international responses to Russian attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea. Ukraine’s government is urging global leaders to take decisive action against these violations of international law.

On the Day of Mourning, Ukraine's defense forces targeted key Russian military sites while President Zelenskyy called for global support against ongoing aggression. The conflict continues to inflict civilian casualties, prompting international calls for action.
