The Ukrainian government has announced a new mortgage initiative aimed at veterans and families of deceased servicemen, offering loans at a significantly reduced interest rate. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that eligible individuals will benefit from a subsidized rate of 3% for the first ten years, increasing to 6% thereafter.
The program, known as “єОселя,” will begin implementation in one month. It sets specific housing size standards for borrowers, ensuring adequate living space based on family size. For apartments, the guidelines specify a minimum of 52.5 square meters for an individual and 73.5 square meters for families of two or three. Additional space of 21 square meters is allowed for each family member beyond three, capping at a total of 115.5 square meters.
For houses, the requirements are slightly higher, with 62.5 square meters for one person and 83.5 square meters for two or three people, also allowing for additional space with a similar cap. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support military personnel and their families, particularly following the expansion of the program in December 2025, which allowed both contract soldiers and mobilized troops to access loans at the favorable 3% rate instead of the previous 7%.
