Sources indicate that the attack specifically impacted the Euro+ oil refining unit, which was launched in 2020 as part of the refinery’s modernization efforts. This unit is crucial for the processing of crude oil and the production of high-octane gasoline components.
In addition to the Euro+ unit, the strike affected several auxiliary power blocks, inter-block pipelines, and secondary technological installations associated with its operation. Storage tanks for oil products were also damaged and caught fire.
According to Reuters, the Moscow refinery processed 11.6 million tons of crude oil in 2024, averaging around 230,000 barrels per day. It produced 2.9 million tons of gasoline, 3.2 million tons of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tons of bitumen during that period.
The Euro+ unit plays a vital role in the refinery’s operations, integrating multiple stages of oil processing into a single production cycle. It facilitates the primary processing of crude oil and the purification of oil products from impurities.
This installation replaced several outdated technologies and significantly contributes to the refinery’s capacity for producing gasoline, diesel fuel, and other oil products. Due to its importance, Euro+ is regarded as one of the most critical production facilities at the refinery.
