Zelensky Urges Peace Talks with Putin Before Winter in Neutral Location

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for peace negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to take place before winter, emphasizing that these discussions should occur in a neutral country.

Zelensky made these remarks during an online conversation with Reuters’ editor-in-chief Alessandra Galloni at the Reuters NEXT conference in London. He stated, “I know that Putin has repeatedly suggested coming to Moscow through various leaders. But this is just games. We are not playing such games. A neutral country is needed. It is neither Russia nor Ukraine. The reasons are obvious.”

The Ukrainian leader suggested potential venues for the talks could include Switzerland, Turkey, the United States, or Middle Eastern countries. He noted, “I am not the President of the United States. It is the president’s decision (Donald Trump) to organize such a meeting or not, to invite both of us or not. But I think the United States could also serve as a venue for such a meeting. At least there have been negotiations in the U.S. before, in Alaska.”

Zelensky stressed the urgency of arranging these talks before the cold weather sets in, recalling the severe winter Ukraine faced last year. He remarked, “We do not want to go through such a winter again. And Russia must know that if we survived a very difficult winter, the next winter will not be easy for them either. That is why my proposal is dialogue.”
