Canada Imposes Sanctions on Over 160 Entities Linked to Russia’s Shadow Fleet

During a recent G7 summit, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the imposition of sanctions against more than 160 entities associated with Russia’s shadow fleet. This decision comes amid ongoing discussions regarding military support for Ukraine.

Carney stated, “Today, Canada is announcing the introduction of another package of sanctions against over 160 entities related to the shadow fleet, as it should be.” This move is part of Canada’s broader strategy to counter Russian aggression and support Ukraine.

In addition to sanctions, Carney revealed that a shipment of air defense systems is en route to Ukraine under the PURL initiative. He emphasized, “Our delivery of the latest batch of PURL air defense systems is already on its way. We are collaborating more closely on drone production.” This reflects an ongoing commitment to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Carney expressed confidence in Ukraine’s eventual victory in the conflict, stating, “The course of the war is changing, and this is part of what we just discussed. Ukraine will prevail. It is only a matter of time and how many senseless killings Russia will commit.” His remarks underscore the belief among Canadian officials that Ukraine’s resilience will lead to success.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also participated in the discussions at the G7 summit. He highlighted the strong support from Ukraine’s partners, stating, “Our partners backed our positions and what we truly need—a comprehensive energy package. We need air defense, more Patriot missiles, and we also discussed licenses and how to increase production. I believe this is a good idea that was supported during our meeting. Everyone understood that Russia is not winning. It is excellent that everyone recognizes this, and we must strive to end this war.”

Zelensky further noted the opportunity for joint drone production with Canada, indicating a potential area for future collaboration.

Canada has announced new sanctions against over 160 entities linked to Russia's shadow fleet while also committing to provide air defense systems to Ukraine. Discussions at the G7 summit emphasized the need for increased military support and collaboration between Canada and Ukraine.
