Refat Chubarov, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, has called on Russian citizens residing illegally in occupied Crimea to leave the peninsula immediately. In a recent video statement shared on social media, Chubarov emphasized the urgency of this message as Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to conduct targeted strikes on Russian military installations in the region.
Chubarov specifically addressed those who moved to Crimea after February 27, 2014, asserting that their presence is illegal under both Ukrainian and international law. He criticized these individuals for believing Russian claims that Crimea is now part of Russia, stating that their actions make them complicit in a crime against Ukraine.
“Your cynicism and moral bankruptcy have led you into a dead end. Crimea has become a frontline territory, and its liberation from Russian forces is inevitable. You should not expect to remain in Ukrainian Crimea. However, you can avoid inevitable consequences if you leave in time,” Chubarov said.
He warned that the ongoing operation of the Kerch Bridge offers a limited opportunity for safe departure, urging those still in Crimea to act quickly. Chubarov cautioned that the situation could change rapidly, making escape more difficult.
Additionally, he advised residents loyal to Ukraine, particularly those near military bases and critical infrastructure, to consider their safety and, if possible, evacuate these areas. Chubarov noted that a fuel shortage is expected to worsen in occupied Crimea, which could lead to broader disruptions in food supply and essential goods.
“Please continue to prioritize your personal safety. Everyone awaiting Crimea’s liberation must remain alive and healthy to witness it,” he added.
Refat Chubarov has urged Russian citizens in occupied Crimea to leave immediately, citing legal grounds and escalating military actions. He warned of impending fuel shortages and called for residents loyal to Ukraine to prioritize their safety.
