Emergency responders have extinguished fires in Kyiv, particularly at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal, following the targeted attack by two Russian drones in the area. Zelensky confirmed that 35 people were injured in Kyiv alone, with the total number of casualties across the country reaching 53.
The Ukrainian leadership is actively communicating with international partners regarding the repercussions of this attack and the necessary responses. Zelensky emphasized the importance of global leaders and organizations speaking out against the aggression, directing Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intensify diplomatic efforts to ensure effective international measures are implemented in the coming weeks.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the assault involved a combination of 70 missiles and 611 drones aimed primarily at Kyiv, with additional strikes reported in Dnipro and Kharkiv. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted 632 targets, including 50 missiles and 582 drones, although 20 ballistic missiles and 27 attack drones hit 42 locations, causing debris to fall in 12 areas.
In Kyiv, the latest updates indicate that five people lost their lives and 35, including two children, sustained injuries due to the nighttime attack. Fires broke out across nearly all districts of the city, damaging buildings, including residential structures. Significant fires were reported at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Mystetskyi Arsenal, and the Dovzhenko Film Studio.
On June 15, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a large-scale strike targeting “defense industry facilities” in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv. This assault follows comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 12, indicating an increase in attacks on Ukraine.
