UFC Freedom Fights 250 Takes Place at the White House

A mixed martial arts tournament, UFC Freedom Fights 250, was held on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., coinciding with the 80th birthday of former President Donald Trump. The event attracted thousands of spectators and was marked by a ceremonial opening featuring the national anthem and a flyover by military jets.

The tournament commenced at approximately 8:28 PM local time on June 14, 2026, with Trump and UFC CEO Dana White appearing on the White House balcony to inaugurate the event. Following the anthem, Trump joined the audience near the octagonal ring, referred to by some journalists as the “claw,” alongside his wife Melania and White.

Approximately 4,300 invited guests attended the tournament, while an additional 85,000 fans watched from a designated fan zone nearby. Among the notable attendees were several government officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Trump’s family, including his children and grandchildren, were also present.

The tournament featured seven matches with a total of 14 fighters. Each fighter was escorted to the ring by Medal of Honor recipients and first responders. In the main event, Ilia Topuria defended his lightweight title against 37-year-old Justin Gaethje. The fight concluded in the fourth round when Topuria withdrew, allowing Gaethje to claim the title for the first time in his career. Trump congratulated Gaethje immediately following the bout.

Other matches included bouts featuring fighters such as Ciryl Gane versus Alex Pereira and Sean O’Malley against Ayman Zahabi. The event was notable not only for its high-profile attendees but also for its location, as it marked the first time a UFC event was held at the White House.

The octagonal ring, measuring nine meters in diameter, was completed on June 12, 2026, and featured a large canopy that rose over 27 meters above the arena, equipped with lighting, sound systems, and four large screens. The UFC reportedly covered the event’s expenses, although seven federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration, provided significant resources for security and logistics.

On June 13, a U.S. federal court denied a request to block the event, stating that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate any harm from holding the tournament. The court noted that preparations for the event had been ongoing for several months.

In the summer of 2025, Trump had expressed plans to host a UFC event at the White House to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, highlighting his interest in mixed martial arts.

The UFC Freedom Fights 250 tournament took place at the White House, celebrating former President Trump's birthday. The event featured multiple matches and significant attendance, marking a notable occasion in the realm of mixed martial arts.
