Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has released information indicating that reports from Russian intelligence agencies to President Vladimir Putin reveal increasing dissatisfaction among the Russian populace. In a statement shared via Telegram, Zelensky emphasized the importance of these findings in understanding the internal dynamics within Russia.
Zelensky noted that the reports suggest that the Kremlin is not receiving completely accurate information, stating, “We understand that Putin is rarely presented with entirely truthful information. However, even what reaches him allows for certain conclusions to be drawn.” He pointed out that forecasts of public discontent towards Putin are expected to rise steadily, with indications that this trend will not plateau before the parliamentary elections scheduled for September.
According to Zelensky, there is a consistent decline in support for the ruling party in Russia, alongside a notable increase in protest sentiments across various regions. He remarked, “The pressure on Russia regarding this war will continue and intensify, not only from us. Therefore, by September, Putin will face significantly worse indicators.”
Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to seeking a just peace, stating that the ongoing internal situation in Russia should compel a shift towards negotiations. He expressed concern that the Kremlin’s response to Ukraine’s previous peace proposals has been limited to rhetoric about continuing the conflict. “It is clear that trends will not change, and over time, it may mean that any agreement will need to be made with someone else in Russia—someone who is not detached from reality,” he added.
Previously, on June 4, Zelensky publicly invited Putin to set a date for discussions aimed at ending the war, proposing that Europe and the United States be involved in the negotiations. In response, Putin acknowledged having reviewed Zelensky’s letter but stated that he saw no point in holding a meeting.
