Shooting in Central Israel Leaves One Dead and Five Injured

One individual has died and five others sustained injuries in a shooting incident in central Israel, near the occupied West Bank. The Israeli ambulance service reported the event, which occurred in the Southern Sharon area, close to the Palestinian city of Qalqilya.

According to reports from Reuters, the shooting took place across three separate locations in central Israel. Emergency medical personnel confirmed the death of a man, approximately 35 years old, due to gunshot wounds. They also provided medical assistance to the five injured, two of whom are in serious condition while the remaining three are classified as moderately injured.

“Paramedics and MDA emergency medical technicians declared the man deceased at the scene and evacuated the injured to Meir and Beilinson hospitals,” the ambulance service stated.

The Israeli police are currently searching for the assailant. Although Hamas praised the attack, it did not claim responsibility for it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced plans to assess the security situation in light of this deadly shooting incident.

On May 29, Netanyahu indicated that he had ordered the Israeli military to seize control of 70% of the Gaza Strip. He noted that Israel currently controls 60% of the territory, a figure that contrasts with earlier military maps showing a control of approximately 64% as of late April.

In related developments, on October 13, 2025, leaders from the United States, Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt signed a ceasefire agreement concerning the Gaza Strip during a summit in Sharm El Sheikh. This agreement facilitated a significant exchange: Hamas returned all 20 living Israeli hostages along with the bodies of deceased individuals, while Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

However, on October 19, the ceasefire was violated amid mutual accusations. On October 28, Netanyahu ordered substantial strikes on the Gaza Strip.

Following the resumption of hostilities, Netanyahu emphasized the need for the demilitarization of Gaza and reiterated Israel’s refusal to recognize the state of Palestine.

On December 20, 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced plans for a new governance structure in Gaza, which would include an international council and a group of Palestinian technocrats, along with the deployment of international military forces in the region.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff declared on January 14, 2026, the initiation of the second phase of the American plan to resolve the conflict in Gaza.

On March 9, Reuters reported that discussions regarding the advancement of the Trump plan had been suspended due to the commencement of a military operation by the U.S. and Israel against Iran on February 28.

A shooting incident in central Israel has resulted in one fatality and five injuries, prompting a police search for the assailant. The event has raised security concerns amid ongoing tensions in the region.
