Russian Air Assault on Ukraine: Over 198 Drones Neutralized

In the early hours of June 5, Russian forces launched an extensive aerial attack on Ukraine, employing two guided missiles and a significant number of combat drones. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that their defense systems successfully intercepted 198 drones during this assault.

The attack commenced around 18:00 on June 4, with the adversary deploying two Kh-59/69 guided missiles from the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia, alongside 216 combat drones, including types such as Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones classified as ‘Parody.’ These were launched from various locations, including Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Chauda in the occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

By 07:30, Ukrainian air defense units, which included aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups, managed to neutralize or suppress the 198 Russian drones across northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.

Reports indicated that 16 of the attacking drones successfully struck thirteen locations, while debris from these drones fell at twelve other sites. Notably, the guided missiles did not reach their intended targets.

“The attack is ongoing, and several enemy drones remain in the airspace. Please adhere to safety protocols,” the Ukrainian Air Force advised.

A recent Russian aerial assault on Ukraine involved the use of guided missiles and over 200 drones, with Ukrainian defenses successfully neutralizing 198 of them. Despite some drone strikes causing damage, the guided missiles failed to hit their targets.
