Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently convened a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council to discuss enhancements to the country’s military capabilities, particularly focusing on air defense and combat brigades.
Zelensky shared insights from the meeting on social media, emphasizing the importance of analyzing the implementation of decisions made by military leaders on the front lines. He noted that initiatives introduced in the latter half of the previous year have significantly bolstered Ukraine’s defensive positions.
The agenda included direct financial support for combat brigades to procure essential equipment, particularly drones. Additionally, the meeting addressed the equitable distribution of personnel to reinforce these brigades and expand their operational capabilities.
According to Zelensky, direct funding has enhanced the combat readiness of the brigades. “Approximately 160 military units are now receiving stable and guaranteed reinforcements, which allows for more confident defense of positions,” he stated. He also highlighted that the number of units authorized to conduct drone operations has doubled. The President tasked officials with exploring further measures to support these brigades.
The meeting also covered the supply of long-range 155mm artillery shells, a request frequently made by military personnel. Zelensky instructed the relevant authorities to develop additional funding, production, and supply options for these munitions, which are crucial for achieving combat objectives. He mentioned that the Ministry of Defense is actively working on supplying pickup trucks to the armed forces, with decisions already being implemented.
Furthermore, Zelensky received a report from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi regarding the situation in key operational areas. “Ukrainian positions are strong, and this is a vital outcome for our state. It will support all diplomatic efforts,” he remarked.
Significant attention was also given to air defense, which Zelensky identified as a critical priority for protecting cities and communities. He expressed expectations for increased diplomatic activity to enhance air defense capabilities and secure necessary missiles. The President instructed the Ministry of Defense to activate all existing partnerships to procure anti-ballistic systems, emphasizing the need to identify what is essential for Ukraine.
