The Norwegian government has announced a financial package of 425 million Norwegian kroner, approximately 40 million euros, aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This funding is intended to assist in the restoration of energy systems, enhance local generation capabilities, and promote renewable energy projects.
Officials have indicated that this support is crucial for strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of the upcoming winter, particularly in light of ongoing threats from Russian attacks. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized the importance of this assistance, stating, “Ukraine must survive the coming winter while simultaneously building an energy system that is less vulnerable to attacks. In collaboration with the EU, Norway is providing 425 million kroner to enhance Ukraine’s energy security. This funding will help meet urgent needs and contribute to the country’s recovery, modernization, and progress toward EU membership.”
In a related update, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported on May 18 that since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has received 3,209 units of energy equipment from partners. This includes generators, transformers, modular heating plants, cogeneration units, and boilers. Since the onset of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has received 2,250 humanitarian shipments containing energy equipment, totaling nearly 29,000 tons, with over 26,400 tons already distributed across various regions.
