In a recent update, the Ukrainian General Staff reported 253 combat engagements over the past day, with the majority of Russian assaults concentrated in the Pokrovsk direction. This area has seen significant defensive actions, with Ukrainian forces successfully repelling 52 attempts by Russian troops to advance towards various settlements.
According to the report, the Russian attacks targeted locations including Zatyshok, Nikanorivka, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, Kamianka, Serhiivka, Udachne, Molodetske, Novopavlivka, Novopidhorodne, Bilytske, Shevchenko, and Myrne. In addition to the Pokrovsk direction, there were 28 assaults reported in the Huliaipole direction and 25 in the Kostiantynivka area.
Combat operations were also ongoing in several other regions, including the Northern Slobozhansky, Kursk, Southern Slobozhansky, Kupiansk, Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, and Dnipro directions.
On the previous day, the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) indicated that Ukrainian forces are regaining tactical initiative across various segments of the frontline. This assessment aligns with statements made by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who noted that Ukrainian military efforts have significantly slowed the advance of Russian forces and are gradually shifting the initiative back to Ukraine.
Fedorov highlighted several factors contributing to this shift, including the disruption of Russian communications via Starlink and the increasing use of medium-range drone strikes. Meanwhile, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, acknowledged the potential for renewed Russian offensive operations from Belarus, emphasizing that the situation remains fluid.
On May 8, Syrskyi had previously remarked on the escalation of Russian offensive actions across the entire front, identifying the Pokrovsk direction as particularly intense, with Russia reportedly concentrating around 106,000 personnel in that area.
The Ukrainian military reported a significant number of combat engagements, primarily in the Pokrovsk direction, where they successfully repelled numerous Russian attacks. This update coincides with assessments from military analysts indicating a shift in tactical initiative back to Ukrainian forces.
