The recent review of transport fares in Kyiv is not expected to immediately affect taxi prices, according to local ride-hailing company Bolt. However, other factors may influence the cost of taxi services in the future.
Company representatives stated that they continuously assess not only fuel prices but also the overall dynamics of the transport market. Bolt employs a system of dynamic pricing, which primarily considers the balance of supply and demand at any given time.
As noted by Bolt’s General Manager, Andrii Pavlyk, this balance significantly impacts the cost of rides.
“Currently, we do not anticipate a sharp or substantial increase in fare rates. However, ongoing changes in the city’s transport market and rising fuel costs may gradually affect ride prices in the long term,” Pavlyk said.
Pavlyk highlighted that increasing fuel prices are impacting driver expenses. Nevertheless, the platform allows drivers to flexibly choose their routes and working hours, which helps them adapt to these changes.
Additionally, potential fare adjustments in public transport could alter commuting patterns among city residents, thereby affecting demand for various mobility options. Pavlyk indicated that this shift might also gradually influence taxi service pricing.
“Our priority is to maintain a balance between service accessibility for passengers and fair conditions for our driver partners. Therefore, all decisions are made thoughtfully, taking into account market conditions and the specifics of each city,” he emphasized.
On May 18, the Kyiv City State Administration announced a draft decision to revise fares for public transport in the capital. The proposed changes include an increase in the cost of a single trip to 30 UAH, a monthly pass priced at 1,088 UAH, and an unlimited monthly ticket costing 4,875 UAH.
The city authorities noted that the economically justified fare for 2026 is set at 64.60 UAH for the metro and 44.14 UAH for surface transport. Currently, a ride on Kyiv’s public transport costs 8 UAH. The new tariffs are expected to take effect as early as July 15.
The review of transport fares in Kyiv is unlikely to lead to immediate changes in taxi prices, although rising fuel costs and public transport fare adjustments may have a long-term impact. Bolt's management emphasizes a careful approach to pricing that balances passenger accessibility with fair conditions for drivers.
