Ukrainian Official Addresses Concerns Over Military Mobilization of Youth

In a recent statement, Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, addressed the potential mobilization of young people aged 18 to 25, asserting that such a move would jeopardize the future of the nation and an entire generation. He emphasized that this option is not currently being considered by the authorities.

During a press conference, Budanov responded to questions regarding the controversial practice of forcibly recruiting men into military service, often referred to as ‘busification.’ He acknowledged that while these tactics may appear harsh, they are part of a broader effort to defend the country.

“Our side needs human capital, or perhaps it would be more accurate to call it human resources. The recruitment of volunteers is insufficient to meet the army’s needs. After 12.5 years of conflict, there is little incentive for individuals to volunteer. This is an international and internal war, meaning everyone is involved in protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence,” Budanov stated.

He further noted that without mobilization, the military would struggle to maintain its operational capabilities. Budanov admitted that the current military regime and ongoing mobilization efforts would continue to result in contentious situations.

Regarding the mobilization of young people, he reiterated his concerns, stating, “If we simply take all youth aged 18-25 through the mobilization mechanism, we will destroy the future of our state and an entire generation.”

Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's military intelligence, has voiced concerns over the potential mobilization of young people, warning it could undermine the nation's future. He acknowledged the necessity of mobilization while recognizing the contentious nature of current recruitment practices.
