UN Condemns Attacks on Humanitarian Convoys in Ukraine

The United Nations has firmly condemned the attacks on humanitarian convoys carried out by Russia during shelling in Ukraine on May 14. This statement was made by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, during a media briefing.

Fletcher reported that he spent a significant part of the previous night communicating with colleagues in Ukraine after UN humanitarian convoys were struck twice near the frontline. He emphasized that such actions are entirely unacceptable.

The UN is demanding full accountability and a thorough investigation, expecting member states to ensure the protection of humanitarian operations.

Earlier, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq mentioned that a vehicle marked with UN insignia sustained severe damage from two drone strikes in Kherson. He explained that the vehicle was delivering aid to civilians in the Ostryv neighborhood, one of the hardest-hit areas of Kherson.

During this mission, the team was providing food and solar lamps to residents in a difficult-to-access region. Although the team managed to leave the site safely, Haq noted that this incident is not an isolated case.

The UN has condemned the recent attacks on humanitarian convoys in Ukraine, demanding accountability and protection for aid operations. The strikes, which occurred in Kherson, resulted in significant damage to a UN-marked vehicle during a delivery of essential supplies.
