Rescue teams in Kyiv have recovered the bodies of two additional individuals from the rubble of a residential building in the Darnytskyi district, according to a correspondent from Radio Svoboda on the scene. This follows reports of five fatalities, including a 12-year-old girl, confirmed by Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) has indicated that at least 20 people are currently unaccounted for in the wake of the building collapse. A total of 39 individuals have sustained injuries, including a child, while 28 people have been successfully rescued.
In a related context, President Volodymyr Zelensky remarked on the extensive damage inflicted by the Russian attack, which targeted various areas of Kyiv. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that on the night of May 14, Russian forces launched a coordinated strike involving 56 missiles of different types and 675 drones, primarily aimed at Kyiv.
Local authorities confirmed that the attack resulted in damage across several districts, including Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Obolonskyi. In Darnytskyi, a nine-story panel residential building collapsed, destroying 18 apartments. The search and rescue operation is ongoing.
President Zelensky further stated that the recent Russian assault has led to damage to 180 facilities across Ukraine, with over 50 of these being residential buildings. Earlier in the day, Russia had conducted a prolonged drone attack, with the Main Intelligence Directorate reporting that a combined, extended aerial assault on critical infrastructure in Ukraine was underway. This could involve a significant number of cruise missiles launched from air and sea, as well as ballistic missiles.
The Russian government has yet to comment on the recent attacks.
