On May 13, the Russian military initiated a combined air assault against Ukraine, which is expected to be prolonged. According to the press service of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate, the initial phase of the attack involves the deployment of a significant number of strike drones aimed at overwhelming Ukraine’s air defense systems and targeting civilian infrastructure.
The report indicates that Russia plans to follow up this drone assault with a substantial launch of various types of cruise missiles, both air- and sea-launched, as well as ballistic missiles. The primary targets include critical infrastructure and essential services in major cities, particularly energy facilities, defense industry enterprises, and government buildings.
The intelligence agency emphasized that this escalation comes as Russia has dismissed proposals for a ceasefire, aiming to undermine Ukraine’s resilience in the ongoing struggle for sovereignty. They also reminded citizens of the importance of responding to air raid alerts and utilizing shelters as necessary.
In related developments, Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force, noted a repositioning of Russian tactical aviation, suggesting preparations for potential large-scale strikes against Ukraine in the coming days.
The Russian military has commenced a significant air assault on Ukraine, utilizing drones and planning missile strikes on critical infrastructure. This escalation follows Russia's rejection of ceasefire proposals, indicating a sustained offensive strategy.
