German Defense Minister Visits Kyiv to Strengthen Military Cooperation with Ukraine

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius arrived in Kyiv to discuss enhancing defense industry collaboration with Ukraine, according to reports from the DPA news agency.

The focus of the discussions is on the joint development of new weapon systems. Strengthening this partnership is seen as a key objective of the visit. “Germany and Ukraine are strategic partners who both benefit from cooperation, leading to numerous new projects,” Pistorius stated.

He emphasized the importance of developing advanced drone systems, particularly in the area of long-range strikes, as a means to bolster the security of both nations.

In April, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced a substantial cooperation package with Germany valued at four billion euros. This initiative aims to enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, develop long-range strike capabilities, and facilitate the joint production of drones.

During a visit to Berlin in April, President Volodymyr Zelensky also proposed an agreement with Germany for the production of various types of drones.

Pistorius’s previous visit to Ukraine took place in June 2025, marking a continued commitment to military collaboration between the two countries.

The visit by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to Kyiv aims to strengthen military cooperation with Ukraine, focusing on joint weapon system development and advanced drone technology. This partnership is part of a broader initiative to enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities amid ongoing regional tensions.
