Despite a declared three-day ceasefire, Ukraine’s military reported 180 combat encounters on the front lines over the past day. This marks an increase from the previous day’s 147 clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In a detailed morning briefing, the military indicated that Russian forces deployed 8,037 kamikaze drones and carried out 6,380 shelling attacks on populated areas and Ukrainian positions, including 25 strikes using multiple rocket launch systems.
The most significant Russian offensives were noted in the Pokrovsk direction, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 37 assault attempts in areas including Toretske, Bilitske, Pokrovsk, Rodynske, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Muravka, Novopidhirodne, and towards Hanniivka, Myrne, Serhiivka, and Novooleksandrivka.
In the Huliaipilske direction, 18 attacks were recorded in regions such as Rybne, Charivne, Huliaipole, Nova Zaporizhzhia, Sviatopetrivka, Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Olenokostyantynivka, and Huliaipilske. The Southern Slobozhansky direction saw 15 assaults on Ukrainian positions, while the Lyman direction noted 13 repelled attempts by Russian forces. Additionally, there were 12 attacks in the Kostiantynivka direction.
Combat operations are also ongoing in the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, as well as in Kupiansk, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, and Orikhiv areas. Notably, no offensive actions were reported in the Dnipro direction.
According to General Oleksandr Syrskyi, as of May 8, the Russian army has intensified its offensive operations across nearly the entire front, with the Pokrovsk direction remaining the most tense. He noted that Russia has concentrated approximately 106,000 troops in this area.
Analysts from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) observed that both Russian and Ukrainian forces continued limited offensive operations during the second day of the ceasefire agreement, which is set from May 9 to 11. Both sides have accused the other of violating the ceasefire on May 10.
According to ISW, referencing NASA FIRMS data from May 10, combat activities had decreased further, yet frontline activity persisted. The ongoing mutual accusations and localized military actions during the ceasefire highlight the challenges of maintaining a ceasefire without clear enforcement mechanisms, reliable monitoring, and well-defined dispute resolution processes.
Despite a declared ceasefire, Ukraine's military reports significant ongoing combat activity, with hundreds of clashes and drone deployments by Russian forces. Analysts emphasize the challenges of enforcing ceasefire agreements amid continued hostilities.
