Ukraine is advancing the development of new formats for its military contract service, alongside mandatory rotation policies for troops stationed at the front lines, according to General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In a recent Telegram update, Syrskyi outlined ongoing efforts to implement a shift towards a contract-based military model, a key initiative proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. He has tasked the General Staff with preparing specific proposals for these new service formats.
Syrskyi emphasized the importance of addressing recruitment and mobilization issues as part of this transition. He noted that a new instruction has been developed and signed, which regulates the duration of service for soldiers on the front lines. Under this directive, military personnel must be rotated out of frontline positions after a maximum of two months, with an additional month allocated for the rotation process.
This initiative comes in the context of Ukraine’s ongoing military mobilization, which has been in effect since February 24, 2022, the day Russia launched its full-scale invasion. Since then, the Ukrainian Parliament has extended the state of martial law and mobilization every three months, reflecting the ongoing need for military readiness in the face of continued conflict.
Ukraine is restructuring its military service by introducing new contract formats and mandatory rotation for frontline troops. This initiative aims to enhance recruitment and mobilization efforts amid ongoing conflict with Russia.
