A shooting incident on May 1 in Shakhtarsk, Dnipropetrovsk region, has resulted in the arrest of three suspects, all of whom are members of the ‘Wolves Da Vinci’ battalion. Local law enforcement authorities confirmed the incident involved allegations of abduction and assault against a man.
The battalion addressed the situation on its Instagram account, expressing regret over the events and emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable and inconsistent with the values of the Ukrainian military. They acknowledged the community of Shakhtarsk as significant, particularly given its proximity to ongoing conflict and its support for military personnel.
According to reports, the soldiers involved in the incident have been engaged in combat operations for an extended period. Battalion commander Serhiy Filimonov noted, “These are not random individuals. They are fighters who have been on the front lines, carrying out challenging missions in one of the key areas of conflict. Unfortunately, the stress of war can sometimes lead to actions that bring shame to our battalion.”
Despite the context, the battalion made it clear that there is no justification for the actions taken. They are currently conducting an internal investigation and are cooperating fully with law enforcement. The battalion stated that all individuals involved will face appropriate consequences, and the entire unit will share responsibility for the incident.
Furthermore, the battalion has committed to working on community needs, inviting residents to share their suggestions for projects. They stated, “We will openly publish the proposals and ask the community to determine what work the battalion should undertake. While we cannot change what has happened, we can acknowledge our mistake, learn from it, and respond to the community through actions, not just words.”
