Ukraine and the Netherlands are set to initiate joint production of the Baton and K4 drones by 2026, according to a statement from the Dutch Ministry of Defence.
Jurriaan Esser, a spokesperson for the ministry, indicated that production is expected to commence this year, although the specifics of the agreement remain confidential. He stated,
“We anticipate that production will begin this year. The terms are confidential,”
highlighting the collaborative nature of the project.
Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, the Dutch Minister of Defence, emphasized the significance of this partnership between Ukrainian and Dutch companies as a crucial advancement in bilateral cooperation. She noted that Ukrainian forces have effectively utilized drones in countering Russian attacks, and the Netherlands is learning directly from Ukraine’s experiences. Yeşilgöz-Zegerius remarked that this collaboration also presents opportunities for Dutch businesses.
Esser further assured that the Dutch defense industry would not succumb to pressure from Russia, particularly regarding the company Destinus, which manufactures drones and missiles for Ukraine. He described Destinus as an important partner for the ministry.
Additionally, Esser confirmed that the United States has approved the sale of Hellfire missiles to the Netherlands, further enhancing the military capabilities of the Dutch armed forces.
The planned joint production of drones by Ukraine and the Netherlands marks a significant step in defense collaboration. This initiative, expected to begin this year, aims to leverage Ukrainian expertise in drone technology while providing opportunities for Dutch industry.
