The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has identified 300 instances of doping involving Russian athletes, according to a statement released on its official website. This finding stems from an extensive investigation named “Operation LIMS,” which analyzed data and samples collected from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory’s Laboratory Information Management System in 2019.
As of the report’s publication on April 30, WADA noted that 23 anti-doping organizations had issued a total of 302 sanctions against 291 Russian athletes. Additionally, four further allegations have been made, pending final decisions.
“In simple terms, ‘Operation LIMS’ is the most successful investigation in the history of the fight against doping. The exposure of an institutionalized doping scheme in Russia has led to 302 sanctions. This achievement is a result of the diligent work and professionalism of WADA staff, particularly those in our intelligence, investigations, and legal departments, as well as our partners from other organizations. It reflects the cooperation and commitment of various international federations and other anti-doping organizations that meticulously reviewed the evidence provided by WADA,” stated WADA President Witold Banka.
WADA emphasized that all cases related to this operation have been thoroughly investigated. While the majority of violations were linked to athletics and weightlifting, athletes from a total of 22 different sports faced sanctions.
