Finland’s Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen announced that the country will officially join the “drone coalition” led by Latvia and the United Kingdom by the end of spring. This decision comes after extensive deliberations within the Finnish government.
Häkkänen emphasized that Finland’s participation in the coalition, which already includes over 20 nations, represents a significant step in enhancing European support for Ukraine. He stated, “We have discussed allocating more resources to support Ukraine in the field of unmanned systems. This will allow us to make a substantial contribution to European assistance for Ukraine.”
The coalition includes several member countries, such as Latvia, the UK, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
In related developments, Latvia has announced plans to allocate 15 million euros to the drone coalition by 2026. Additionally, Ukraine and Norway recently revealed the launch of their first joint production of mid-strike drones.
Finland's decision to join the drone coalition underscores its commitment to enhancing military support for Ukraine. The coalition, which includes over 20 countries, aims to strengthen European defense capabilities through advanced drone technology.
