Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet determined the specific dates for a proposed ceasefire coinciding with the upcoming Victory Day celebrations on May 9. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that a decision has yet to be made.
Peskov also mentioned that Moscow has not received any response from Ukraine regarding the expressed willingness to declare a ceasefire.
Previously, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov indicated that Putin had informed U.S. President Donald Trump about his readiness to announce a temporary ceasefire for the commemorative events. Ushakov noted that Trump was supportive of this idea.
Meanwhile, the Center for Countering Disinformation has provided insight into the reasons behind Russia’s discussion of a ceasefire. According to the center’s head, Andriy Kovalenko, Putin’s proposal is motivated by concerns for the safety of the Victory Day parade, as he cannot ensure security even within Moscow.
This morning, on April 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed his representatives to reach out to Trump’s team to clarify the details of Russia’s ceasefire proposal. Zelensky emphasized, “Our proposal is to cease fire long-term, ensuring reliable security for people and lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to work towards this in any dignified and effective format.”
As the May 9 Victory Day approaches, Vladimir Putin has yet to finalize the ceasefire dates, with ongoing discussions about security concerns. Ukraine is actively seeking clarification on Russia's proposal for a temporary truce.
