Ukraine Investigates Russian Ceasefire Proposal Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Ukrainian government is currently examining the details of a proposed short-term ceasefire put forth by Russia, as confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky has instructed Ukrainian representatives to engage with the U.S. presidential team to clarify the specifics of Russia’s initiative regarding a temporary halt in hostilities.

Expressing Ukraine’s commitment to peace, Zelensky stated that the nation continues its diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the ongoing war.

“We will clarify what exactly is being proposed: whether it is a few hours of safety for a parade in Moscow or something more substantial,” he remarked.

The president emphasized that Ukraine is advocating for a long-term ceasefire that ensures reliable security for its citizens and a lasting peace. He reiterated the country’s readiness to pursue this goal through any appropriate and effective means.

It is worth noting that on April 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a 90-minute phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which they discussed the possibility of a ceasefire announcement coinciding with the May 9 celebrations.

Following their discussion, Trump indicated that he had suggested a “small ceasefire” to Putin, expressing his belief that the Russian leader could implement it. Trump also mentioned that he thought Putin had been ready to reach an agreement for some time, but that various factors had complicated the possibility of a deal.

Ukraine is assessing a Russian proposal for a short-term ceasefire, with President Zelensky emphasizing the need for a more substantial and lasting peace. Ongoing diplomatic efforts continue as the situation develops.
