Ukrainian military leaders are actively addressing the ongoing challenges posed by Russian forces, who remain intent on expanding their control beyond the Donbas region. Despite these ambitions, Ukrainian troops are systematically undermining the enemy’s operational capabilities.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, recently met with members of the newly established Allied Reform and Expert Support (ARES) Military Expert Council. During this meeting, he engaged in a substantive discussion with Council Chair General Sir Richard Shirreff and Lieutenant General Pawel Maczko.
Syrskyi provided updates on the current operational situation in the Russian-Ukrainian war, highlighting the implementation of new strategies and weaponry. He stated, “The enemy does not abandon its attempts to advance and aims to seize not only Donbas but all of Ukraine. In response, we are systematically weakening its ability to wage war—deliberately destroying resources, logistics, and military potential, consistently thwarting the enemy’s plans.”
However, he cautioned that it should not be expected that the enemy’s resources will deplete quickly.
In related developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that Russia is attempting to intensify its assault activities at the front, but is facing even greater losses. In March alone, Russian military casualties exceeded 35,000 personnel, a significant portion of which were attributed to effective drone operations.
Currently, Ukrainian defense forces maintain an advantage in the use of strike drones, with a frontline ratio of 1.3 to 1 in favor of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Syrskyi noted that Ukrainian forces are engaged in a competition with Russian occupiers across three key areas: the quality and quantity of drone units, technological advancements, and economic capabilities.
Recently, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine’s military leadership has thoroughly analyzed Russian army plans and has already identified subsequent steps to counter these strategies.
