The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has classified a recent shooting incident in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv as a terrorist act. The attack, which involved the shooting of civilians and hostage-taking, has led to a criminal investigation under Article 258 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to acts of terrorism resulting in fatalities.
According to SBU officials, the perpetrator, a 55-year-old man, was armed with registered firearms. The incident has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, while seven others have been hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities, including the SBU, the National Police, and the prosecutor’s office, are undertaking comprehensive measures to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident, including the potential motives of the shooter.
On April 18, an unidentified man opened fire on civilians in the Holosiivskyi district. The shooter was subsequently neutralized during the arrest. Among the known casualties are a supermarket security guard and a four-month-old infant who suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a nearby apartment fire set by the shooter. The infant’s parents declined hospitalization.
