Recent intelligence reports suggest that Russia is attempting to draw Belarus into the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Observations indicate that Belarus is enhancing its infrastructure, including roads leading to Ukrainian territory, and establishing artillery positions.
During a briefing led by Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi, the activities of the Belarusian armed forces were discussed. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the ongoing troop regrouping by the occupying forces, likely aimed at addressing personnel shortages.
Zelenskyy stated, “We are noting efforts by the occupying contingent to reorganize forces, which makes the increased military activity in Belarus more evident.” He emphasized that intelligence indicates the construction of roads and artillery setups in border regions of Belarus.
The President expressed concerns that Russia is once again attempting to involve Belarus in its military operations. He instructed relevant channels to warn the Belarusian leadership about Ukraine’s readiness to defend its territory and sovereignty. He referenced recent events in Venezuela as a cautionary example for Belarusian authorities against making miscalculations.
Military expert Kovalенко reported that Belarus appears to have been tasked by Russia to maintain pressure on the Ukrainian Armed Forces ahead of potential spring-summer offensive actions by the invaders in Eastern and Southern Ukraine.
Kovalенко cautioned that any provocations from Belarus would be a misstep for dictator Alexander Lukashenko and his regime. Additionally, various media outlets have recently reported that Russia plans to establish bases in Belarus for launching long-range drones, which would heighten the threat to Ukraine.
Furthermore, Yuriy Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, noted that Russia is utilizing Belarus and several neighboring countries to facilitate the deployment of its strike drones into Ukraine.
