The United States has alerted Lithuania and Estonia about possible delays in the delivery of ammunition purchased from the US, a situation attributed to ongoing military actions in the Middle East. This information was confirmed by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, which stated that Pentagon representatives communicated these concerns regarding supply chains.
In a statement, the ministry emphasized that they maintain regular contact with the Pentagon regarding military equipment and ammunition supplies. “We are guided by the official information provided by our allies,” the ministry noted.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas also acknowledged that the US had informed Tallinn about issues affecting arms deliveries to its partners. “We understand the arguments and circumstances,” she said, adding that Estonia is in close communication with the US and is exploring solutions to address the situation.
Earlier reports indicated that several European nations had received warnings from the US about potential delays in arms shipments due to the need for the US to replenish its own stockpiles amid the protracted conflict in the Middle East. This issue affects multiple countries across Europe, particularly in the Baltic and Northern regions.
The ammunition in question includes various offensive and defensive types acquired through the Foreign Military Sales program. The delays come at a critical time as the geopolitical landscape shifts due to the escalating conflict involving Israel and Iran.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently expressed concerns that the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran could further diminish support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russia. He pointed out that US focus appears to have shifted towards the conflict with Iran, which could impact military aid to Ukraine.
The situation escalated on February 28, when Israel launched an attack on Tehran, prompting US President Donald Trump to announce a significant military operation aimed at neutralizing threats from the Iranian regime. On March 1, the IRGC declared the initiation of a major offensive operation against Israel and US military installations, with Trump warning of severe repercussions should Iran continue its aggressive plans.
