Ukrainian Battalion Leader Discusses Recruitment and Operations Amid Controversy

Kostyantyn Rusnov, the commander of the 210th Separate Battalion of Unmanned Systems in the “Skelya” regiment, recently detailed the recruitment process and operational dynamics of his unit during an interview.

Addressing questions about the unit’s resources compared to other brigades, Rusnov explained the allocation of equipment. He noted that while four brigades might share twenty drones, his battalion, which includes around 10,000 personnel, also receives a similar number of drones despite its larger size. He emphasized that the battalion operates across nine different fronts, conducting between 25 to 40 surveillance missions simultaneously, with each mission requiring two pilots.

Rusnov also elaborated on the recruitment philosophy of his battalion, stating, “We take everyone. We believe there are no bad people. Within two months, these individuals are integrated and capable of executing complex combat tasks without coercion.” He expressed confidence in the leadership within the unit, highlighting the importance of commanders engaging directly with their personnel.

In light of recent accusations from volunteer and blogger Serhiy Sternenko, who criticized commanders in the 425th regiment for allegedly leading their troops into dangerous situations, Rusnov defended his unit. He dismissed Sternenko’s claims as unfounded and invited the advisor to gather information directly from the battalion.

Rusnov concluded by honoring the bravery of his soldiers, particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in combat, reinforcing the commitment of his unit to undertake challenging missions.

Kostyantyn Rusnov, commander of the 210th Separate Battalion, discusses recruitment and operational strategies while defending his unit against recent criticisms. He emphasizes the battalion's capability and the dedication of its personnel amidst ongoing challenges.
