Zelensky Offers Mirror Response to Russia’s Energy Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that if Russia ceases its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Ukraine will respond in kind. He made these remarks during an address on April 6, 2026.

“If Russia is willing to stop striking our energy sector, we will be ready to respond mirror-like. This proposal is being communicated through American channels to the Russian side,” the president said.

Zelensky also mentioned that both Ukrainian and American officials are actively working on documents related to a peace agreement aimed at ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“As agreed, Ukraine is preparing its proposals and enhancing the security guarantees document. These guarantees are crucial for a genuine end to the war and lasting peace, creating a political and legal framework that allows for trust in the process,” he added.

The president emphasized the importance of ensuring that Ukraine’s partners understand the Ukrainian position, stating that productive negotiations must continue.

“There is currently a lot of skepticism in diplomacy—not just here—regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine. However, the outcome depends on all participants in the diplomatic process. We are in contact with the American side at various levels every day to ensure a positive result,” he noted.

Prior to these comments, Zelensky reported on the findings of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of General Staff Andrii Hnatov, indicating that Ukrainian long-range strikes on Russian oil infrastructure are reducing revenue for the Russian budget.

According to Reuters, by the end of March 2026, at least 40% of Russia’s oil export capacity had been incapacitated due to Ukrainian drone attacks, the seizure of tankers, and the shutdown of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that Ukraine will mirror Russia's actions regarding energy strikes if they cease. He highlighted ongoing diplomatic efforts with the U.S. to establish a peace agreement while noting the impact of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil infrastructure.
