On March 30, acting Bulgarian Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov arrived in Kyiv, leading a delegation that includes several key ministers. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine.
The Bulgarian government announced via social media that Gyurov’s delegation comprises Foreign Minister Nadia Nayenska, Minister of Transport and Communications Korman Ismailov, Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, Education and Science Minister Sergey Ignatov, and Energy Minister Traicho Traikov.
During his time in Kyiv, Gyurov is scheduled to hold meetings with prominent Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk. These discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in various sectors.
This visit follows a significant political shift in Bulgaria. On December 11, 2025, the government led by former Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov resigned amid widespread protests against economic policies and corruption. The Bulgarian Parliament accepted the resignation the following day.
In a further political development, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev announced his resignation on January 19, 2026, expressing confidence in Vice President Iliana Yotova. Subsequently, Yotova appointed Gyurov as the interim Prime Minister on February 11, 2026, paving the way for a new government to organize early parliamentary elections.
Andrey Gyurov, Bulgaria's acting Prime Minister, is visiting Kyiv to engage in discussions with Ukrainian leaders. This visit comes in the wake of significant political changes in Bulgaria, including recent government resignations and preparations for early elections.
