Concerns Raised Over Administrative Control in Ukraine’s Energy Market

Recent discussions among energy experts have highlighted potential risks associated with increased administrative control in Ukraine’s electricity market. Such interventions could distort market mechanisms and pose additional challenges for industry participants.

One expert, Prokip, emphasized that while market intervention may be necessary during crises, these measures should remain exceptions rather than a standard practice. He noted, “Manual management is always a slippery path. It can be justified at certain moments, but it often leads to distortions in market operations and opens opportunities for misuse.”

Prokip further stressed the importance of maintaining transparent and predictable market rules to foster the development of the energy sector. This is particularly crucial given Ukraine’s strategic goal of integrating into the European energy space.

He remarked, “If we are implementing European market rules and integrating into the European market, we must adhere to these rules and move in that direction.” Prokip cautioned that deviating from market principles could create additional challenges for harmonizing Ukraine’s energy market with European standards, which is a key component of the country’s energy integration with the EU.

Experts are cautioning against increased administrative control in Ukraine's energy market, arguing it could disrupt market mechanisms and hinder integration with European standards. Maintaining transparent market rules is essential for the sector's development.
