European Leaders Propose Support Deal with Trump for Ukraine and Strait of Hormuz Security

European leaders have suggested a potential agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump that would involve assistance in securing the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for comprehensive support for Ukraine. This proposal was discussed during a question-and-answer session at the Chatham House think tank in London.

Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb expressed his approval of the idea, stating that he would consider it further and consult with his team. He emphasized the urgency of the situation in Ukraine, noting that peace negotiations may soon reach a critical juncture that could compel Kyiv to accept unfavorable terms and cede territory to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Stubb acknowledged the limitations of his influence over Trump, particularly after their previous meeting, which included a seven-hour golf game and lunch last year. He remarked, “I have no illusions about who can persuade President Trump of anything. If I can advance even one idea out of ten regarding Ukraine, I consider that a good outcome.”

The Finnish leader also expressed hope that the ongoing talks between Russia and Ukraine would not falter as the negotiations between Iran and the U.S. have in the past.
