Ukrainian Forces Target Russian Air Defense Systems in February Strikes

In February, Ukrainian defense forces achieved significant success in targeting Russian air defense systems, marking a pivotal month in their ongoing operations. The systematic strikes on various components of the enemy’s air defense network have created substantial gaps in Russia’s defensive capabilities.

On February 11, Ukrainian drone units successfully destroyed four air defense systems, including three “Tor-M2” complexes and one “Osa” system, during an operation in the Donetsk region and Kherson. This marked the beginning of a series of successful engagements against Russian air defense assets.

Following this, on February 20, additional strikes led to the destruction of three more “Tor” systems in the occupied Zaporizhia region. Ukrainian forces utilized FP-2 drones equipped with 60 kg warheads, effectively neutralizing these lightly armored targets.

Throughout February, at least nine “Tor” systems were confirmed destroyed, with an estimated value of around $75 million. The campaign continued with a notable strike on February 17, where a powerful S-300VM air defense system was hit in Donetsk, a critical asset valued at over $120 million.

Later in the month, Ukrainian forces targeted a radar station associated with the S-300 system, further crippling the enemy’s surveillance capabilities. On February 25, a special operations unit conducted a high-profile strike in Crimea, destroying a S-400 “Triumph” launcher and a radar station, significantly impacting Russia’s air defense infrastructure on the peninsula.

Additionally, the Ukrainian special forces unit “Phantoms” executed multiple strikes in Crimea, targeting various military assets, including the “Pantsir-S1” air defense system and a naval vessel. Reports confirmed the destruction of several high-value targets, including a Ka-27 helicopter and a strategic drone.

On February 21, Ukrainian drone operators successfully struck a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system, a sophisticated artillery piece with a value exceeding $15 million. This system’s destruction is particularly significant due to its limited quantity in the Russian arsenal, making replacements difficult under current sanctions.

Another strike on February 24 targeted a “Uragan” rocket system, further depleting the enemy’s artillery capabilities. The same night, multiple strikes resulted in the destruction of a “Buk-M1” system and another “Pantsir-S1” near Mariupol.

In total, the confirmed losses for the Russian military in February amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, but the more critical outcome is the systematic dismantling of their air defense network. This ongoing campaign has rendered the Russian military increasingly vulnerable to further assaults.

Ukrainian forces achieved significant success in February by systematically targeting and destroying multiple Russian air defense systems. This campaign not only inflicted substantial financial losses but also created critical vulnerabilities in Russia's defensive capabilities.
