Ukrainian Forces Advance in Dnipropetrovsk Region Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian military units have made significant territorial gains in the Dnipropetrovsk region, advancing between 10 to 12 kilometers in two separate offensives. Since late January 2026, they have liberated over 400 square kilometers of land.

On March 10, Commander Dmytro Filatov of the 1st Separate Assault Regiment reported that his unit had pushed 12 kilometers deeper into Russian-held territory between Novy Zaporizhzhia and Dobropillia, both located north of Hulyaipole and south of Oleksandrivka.

Additionally, a commander of a Ukrainian airborne battalion stated that his forces advanced approximately 10 to 11 kilometers towards Oleksandrivka. This resurgence in initiative has been noted in areas near the border of Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions, according to Vladislav Voloshyn, spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces.

Voloshyn also indicated that Russian troops have not made any significant advances towards Hulyaipole in the past three months, shifting their focus instead to attacks in the direction of Zaliznychnyi, Myrne, and Charivne, all located southwest of Hulyaipole.

Major General Oleksandr Komarenko, head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, confirmed that Ukrainian forces have reclaimed over 400 square kilometers towards Oleksandrivka. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) estimates that since January 1, Ukrainian troops have liberated approximately 279 square kilometers in the direction of Oleksandrivka and Hulyaipole, although their mapping methodology may underrepresent the extent of these advances.

Komarenko added that while Ukrainian forces have liberated nearly all of Dnipropetrovsk, they have yet to capture three small settlements and have not cleared two others, likely referring to five locations within both Dnipropetrovsk and the Oleksandrivka direction.

As of March 2, Ukrainian airborne forces reported the liberation of nine settlements towards Oleksandrivka. ISW has updated its assessment, now indicating that Ukrainian forces have recently liberated Novohryhorivka, Kalynivske, and Stepove, all located southeast of Oleksandrivka.

Geolocation footage released on March 10 shows Ukrainian armored vehicles operating in the center of Novohryhorivka, suggesting recent advancements in the area, including the likely liberation of Kalynivske and Stepove, which lie north of Novohryhorivka.

Ukrainian sources have confirmed the liberation of Kalynivske and Stepove. ISW has also revised its previous assessment regarding footage published on March 7, which depicted Ukrainian forces striking a Russian position in the southern region of Ternove, southeast of Oleksandrivka. The updated analysis suggests that this footage likely occurred before, rather than after, the Ukrainian forces liberated Ternove on March 6, indicating that Russian troops no longer maintain positions there.

On March 10, the Ukrainian regiment operating towards Oleksandrivka announced the liberation of Ternove. Analysts believe that five settlements in the direction of Oleksandrivka and Dnipropetrovsk, where Russian forces are still entrenched, include Novomykolaivka, Zaporizhske, Novohrihorivka, Sichneve, and Maliivka, all located southeast of Oleksandrivka.

Ukrainian military observer Oleksandr Kovalenko assessed on March 10 that Russian troops are holding positions in Novomykolaivka, Sichneve, Maliivka, Ternove, Berezove (west of Ternove), and parts of Vorone (north of Ternove). However, Kovalenko noted that Ukrainian forces have likely already liberated and cleared some of these settlements.

The status of three additional settlements in the eastern part of the Synelnykove district of Dnipropetrovsk, specifically Novopidhorodne, Novopavlivka, and Ivanivka, remains unclear following recent fighting.

Ukrainian forces have made significant territorial advances in the Dnipropetrovsk region, reclaiming over 400 square kilometers since late January 2026. Recent reports indicate successful operations towards Oleksandrivka, with ongoing assessments of the status of several settlements still under contention.
