Ukraine Proposes Drone Technology Deal to the United States

Ukraine is advancing its proposal for a comprehensive drone technology agreement with the United States, which includes not only the sale of drones but also the sharing of technological expertise.

In response to a report from Axios indicating that the U.S. declined Ukrainian technology last year aimed at countering Iranian-made Shahed drones, President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the ongoing relevance of the Drone deal. He stated, “This proposal includes all our drones and our technologies. Essentially, we will provide expert assistance to countries in the Middle East, but this offer was primarily for the United States. I am not sure if they have declined it; I believe it is more of a postponement.”

Zelensky expressed a strong desire to finalize such an agreement with former President Donald Trump, noting its potential benefits for Ukrainian companies.

The Drone deal was first revealed last year, with reports indicating that both nations were engaged in active negotiations for a strategic agreement in the fall.

This proposed document outlines the supply of Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems (UAS), including maritime drones and ground robots, to meet U.S. needs in exchange for royalties, investments, and the procurement of American weaponry worth tens of billions of dollars.

Washington’s primary interest lies in Ukraine’s unique combat experience and its ability to produce large quantities of cost-effective drones.

Ukraine is actively pursuing a drone technology agreement with the U.S., emphasizing the potential for mutual benefits through the exchange of expertise and systems. The proposal, which has been under negotiation for some time, aims to enhance U.S. capabilities while supporting Ukrainian industry.
